Dave Castro Announces Second 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games Event

We're exactly a week after the first 2017 Reebok CrossFit® Games Event announcement, and in true Dave Castro fashion, the second event isn't going to disappoint.

So what is it? Well, there's been quite a bit of speculation if we'd be seeing bikes in the CrossFit Games this year, and to answer the question, yes we are.

With the relocation to Madison, Wisconsin, and the official CrossFit Bike released earlier this year, some athletes guessed that a bike workout was in the near future. What will this workout entail? We're still uncertain, as Castro has yet to release official event specs.

Now one has to wonder, will the workout be a sprint with bikes, or a more distance oriented event? CrossFit is notorious for intense bout of exercise, especially at this elite level, so we'd be shocked if the event wasn't an all out themed ride.

The first event included: run, swim, run. And like the second event, there's still no specs or details on this event other than the movements being asked, so the distance and duration is still up in the air.

So the aquathon is followed by a biking event, which makes them eerily close to a normal triathlon. It's going to be interesting to see the CrossFit spin Dave Castro adds to these events, plus their ordering.

The one standout difference (we noticed) in Castro's second announcement is the lack of mention for divisions. This leaves us with a lot of unanswered questions. Will every division be biking? Are these the first day's events, or just events we'll be seeing throughout the competition?

While these questions are still open ended, we do have a hunch where some of the events might be held. We mentioned in our previous article that the new CrossFit Games location, Madison, Wisconsin, is actually a narrow strip of land that sits between two lakes: Lake Monona and the larger Lake Mendota. The smaller of the two lakes, Lake Monona is usually the location where local triathlon and Iron Man swimming legs are held, but we're just hypothesizing.
