Kwant vs. Medeiros

The standard for the dumbbell snatches has been updated to allow for athletes to switch the dumbbell between hands at any point during the movement after the lockout of each rep.

Medeiros was off to a fast start and took an early lead and never gave it up. The fluidity of Medeiros's dumbbell snatch motion seemed to help set his blistering pace. Kwant's snatches used a much steeper hip hinge, not putting much stress on his legs, and that led to a slower pace compared to the 2020 Rookie of the Year.

Final Scores

Unofficial times:

  • Justin Medeiros - 10:01
  • Samuel Kwant - 11:56

Medieros must have had an extra dose of pre-workout because he smashed his previous time for this workout. He completed 17.1 in 11:53, which means he improved his score by 1:52 in 21.2.

Open Ahead

The name of CrossFit Open workout 21.3 is “Sibling Rivalry” and it will be announced on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at 12 p.m. PST. The announcement will feature all three Panchik brothers face-off. Eight-time Games athlete Scott Panchik will throw down against his brothers, three-time Games athlete Saxon Panchik and Spencer Panchik.

How to Qualify for the 2021 CrossFit Games

The structure of this year's CrossFit season incorporates a three-step qualification process that divides athletes by continent - North America, Europe, Oceania, Asia, South America, Africa. The Open, the Quarterfinals, the Semifinals, and a Last-Chance Qualifier comprise the qualification process.

The top 10 percent of athletes on each continent (25 percent of teams and 10 percent worldwide for age-group competitors) will earn the chance to compete in the Quarterfinals. The highest-placing athletes from each continent's Quarterfinals earn a spot in that region's Semifinals, and the top finishers from those Semifinals qualify for the 2021 CrossFit Games. Additionally, athletes who finish within three spots of a Games qualifying spot in their respective Semifinal will get to compete in a Last-Chance Qualifier to book a ticket to the Games.
